Short iterations
Software is regularly delivered to the customer for review in releases of limited size; if short iteration strokes are good, you should therefore make them very short. We're talking seconds, minutes, or hours, instead of weeks, months, and years. An average iteration of XP takes two weeks, although according to extremeprogramming.org, it can vary from one to three weeks.
The XP cycle consists of six phases: Exploration, Planning, Iterations to Release, Production, Maintenance, and Death.
