For example, a healthcare provider might randomly select
patient charts on a monthly basis, audit them for incidences
of preventable harm, and track and use the information to
make process improvements.
Statistical quality control is better than judgment inspec-
tion because it systematically monitors and gives information
back to the process. It can drive continuous improvement.
However, because SQC relies on sampling rather than check-
ing every service or product, it does not ensure 100 percent
quality. It is still labor intensive, and although information is
tracked, feedback and corrective action are often slow.
