5.1 ABOUT POKA-YOKE SYSTEMS
Poka-yoke systems provide a way to embed a kind of
“memory” into processes, an automatic way of remem-
bering the right, defect-free way to do something. They
are used to carry out two key elements of mistake
proong: 100 percent inspection and quick feedback for
corrective action.
Poka-yoke can involves tools such as checklists that are
designed into the standard work for processes; sensors or
devices installed in equipment and facilities; and warning
systems that alert people to problems. They help to detect
errors and defects that might otherwise slip by a clinician
