For both medical image analysis and remote sensing, the gain from

using images from multiple modalities comes from their complemen-

tarity. More information will be present in a combined multimodal

image than in each of the monomodal ones, provided they have

been properly aligned. This alignment is based on information that is

common to all the modalities used, redundant information.
