10.3 A NEW JOINT MODALITY RECOGNITION

10.3.1 Concept
Typical unimodal pattern recognition approaches that can be found in
the literature adopt the following procedure (see Chapter 2): Initially,
after segmenting the area of interest in an image, in a video or more
generally in a signal, features are extracted that represent as much
as possible the pattern to be recognised. These initial features (sig-
nature features) are stored in a database for future reference. When
