Chapter 7: The Live View Mode and Video Basics
One of the biggest advances in camera technology has been the introduction of Live View and video recording on dSLRs. The Nikon D3200 is on the cutting edge of this technology with full autofocus in Live View modes (
) and video recording. The Live View mode () allows you to use the LCD screen on the back of the camera instead of the viewfinder to compose images and capture video. Because the sensor is placed behind the mirror, it allows the view through the lens to be seen through the viewfinder. For the Live View mode () and video recording to work, that mirror is moved up and out of the way, rendering the viewfinder unusable, while allowing the light to reach the sensor.
Composing the scene using the Live View mode allows you to see exactly what you get when you press the shutter-release button, in much the same way as a point and shoot camera.
