10.1 Introduction
In this chapter we consider processes where the evolution of the state
depe nds upon the pr esent and past history of the state and control.
In the formulation co nsidered, the right-hand side of the dynamics is split
into two parts. The first part contains the history of the state, and the second
part contains the history of the state as well as the control. Many familiar
delay problems are included in the first part of the formulation.
In Section 10.2 we will state the problem and assumptions, and address
existence issues briefly. In the next section we state a corresponding mini-
