Sending your output to a printer was first touched on in Chapter 4. The results of a SELECT statement cannot be printed directly from SQL*Plus. Before the results can be sent to the printer, the results must be placed into a file that is stored on the hard drive. Saving the results of the SELECT statement is called spooling. Table 11.6 contains the names of the commands used to spool the results. The commands are generally placed in a script immediately before and after the SELECT statement. Doing so will suppress the formatting statements from being saved in the output file.
| Command | Example | Description |
|---|---|---|
| SPOOL filename | Spool c:\depart_rep | Sends the output to a file called depart_rep.lst ... |
