Installing a PRC on the Handheld

You should now have a working copy of CodeWarrior or PRC-Tools and a PRC file that you want to install on a handheld or look at on POSE.

Everybody (CodeWarrior and PRC-Tools users) should read this section.

Once you’ve got your PRC file created, you need to install it on the handheld. If you have been using a Palm device the good news is you already know how to do this. You use the same process to install this PRC file as you have for other applications.

If this is entirely new to you, then continue reading and we will show you how to install the PRC using Windows, Mac OS, and Unix.

Using Windows

Run the Palm Install Tool (part of Palm Desktop). Figure 4-26 shows the resulting dialog box. Either drag your PRC file onto the window, or click Add and choose the PRC file. At this point, the file has been copied to the install directory for the specified user and will be installed at the next sync.

Tip

As a shortcut, you can double-click a PRC file; it’ll run the Palm Install Tool, and add the PRC to the list of files to be added for the current user. Now, do a sync and the file should be installed.

Using Mac OS

Run HotSync® Manager, and choose Install Handheld Files. Figure 4-27 shows the resulting dialog box. Either drag your PRC file onto the window or click the Add to List button and choose the PRC file. At this point, the file has been copied to the install directory for the given user and will be installed at the next sync.

Now, do a sync and the file should be installed.

Using Unix

To install using Unix, use the pilot-xfer application (part of the Pilot-Link project). Execute the following:

pilot-xfer --install
filename.prc

Then, do a sync from the handheld.
