What’s New in This Edition

We’ve added some new material in this edition based on changes to the OS and comments from readers. The major additions are as follows:

  • We have added a tutorial that walks a C programmer new to the Palm OS through the creation of a small application. This step-by-step tutorial covers the installation and use of both CodeWarrior and PRC-Tools.

  • We have added a chapter containing a comprehensive discussion of the Memory Manager APIs.

  • We have greatly expanded discussions about forms and form objects. We tell you about the UI and give examples for every type of form and form object available in the Palm OS.

  • We have changed how we create our resources. Rather than using Constructor and PilRC based on the development environment, we use PilRC in all cases. The PilRC text format is cross-platform and easy to display in a book.

  • We have updated the conduit chapter to reflect the newer Conduit Development Kit. We have removed coverage of Basemon conduits and expanded material on Generic conduits. We have also added more material on conduit installers.

Minor changes can be found everywhere. We have updated every chapter to reflect changes in Palm OS versions up to and including Version 4.0. We have also expanded coverage of many topics and added new material throughout.
