Alignment and Measurement Model: A model visually displaying the alignment between the five needs assessed on the front end of a performance consulting initiative (the current state) and the five needs measured following implementation of solutions. The objectives established for each of these five levels of need serve as the goals for the desired state results (the SHOULD).
Benefit/cost ratio (BCR): The ratio of monetary benefits divided by costs. A benefit/cost ratio of 2:1 means that for every $2 in benefits, there was a cost investment of $1.
Business needs: The operational goals for a unit, department, or organization. These typically are measured in a quantifiable manner (e.g., reduce waste by 5 percent).
