It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

In the preceding chapter, you were introduced to a sampling of the filters that make up part of Photoshop's image manipulation arsenal. This chapter continues that theme, this time focusing on some of the filters that allow you to warp, twist, melt, and otherwise distort images.
Some of these filters, like Vanishing Point or Lens Correction, have obvious technical applications. Others can be used to create eye-catching special effects, but there is often a temptation to dismiss some of them as novelty filters. Take the Liquify Filter, for example — at first glance it seems like all it would be good for would be to create funhouse mirror effects as a gag. In the hands of professional retouchers, though, the Liquify Tool is a virtual surgical scalpel, trimming, nipping, and tucking to produce magazine cover-worthy photos.
By the end of this chapter you should be armed with enough information to make the most of these filters — either to create fun special effects or realistic visual sleight-of-hand.
