10Insulation Coordination, Lightning Protection

10.1 Economic Design

Insulation coordination is an essential part of the design of electrical power systems in order to protect the electrical equipment located either indoors or outdoors from the various sources of overvoltages. Insulation coordination is a process of determining adequate insulation levels to protect power system components. It is the selection of an insulation structure with the lightning arresters that will withstand voltage stresses to which the system or equipment will be subjected to.
