by Sivakumar Harinath, Matt Carroll, Sethu Meenakshisundaram, Robert Zare, Denny Guang-Yeu Lee
25.5. Summary
This chapter has provided a high-level overview of understanding Web Analytics and the components it requires. Also, we have reviewed the many business questions and business logic complexities that can be derived out of a relatively simple web log. While we have reviewed issues ranging from visitor unique-ification to campaign logic, within scope for the purpose of this Analysis Services book we have provided the steps to create a basic Web Analytics cube. As you build a more complex Web Analytics cube and/or need to process much more data, the implied complexities of parsing out query string parameters to understanding campaign data will become more apparent, but it is well outside the scope of this book.
In addition, this cube created has not been optimized for performance because its purpose is to provide a step-by-step guide of a basic Web Analytics cube. You can refer to other chapters in this book as well as resources like http://sqlcat.com/ to find out more information on how to design and implement high-performance OLAP databases
