The study of engineering education is a part of the study of social history, as in many respects the story of engineering is the story of civilization itself. Engineers are constantly at work seeking to understand the laws of the physical universe, to take advantage of the beneficial aspects of nature, and to convert or modify the adverse factors. Hence, engineering has been defined as the professional art of applying science to the optimum conversion of the resources of nature to benefit man.
