xxi Service Design is a rapidly growing discipline that has the potential to transform organisations and the experiences encountered by their customers. The standard of service that we have experienced, and have discussed with so many people, is often inadequate, if not poor. Examples abound, including the marketing company that declared that they weren’t interested in feedback, but just wanted customers to agree to provide a ‘five-star rating’, and the courier company that declared that parcels are sometimes delivered to the wrong addresses but are usually to be found in the local neighbourhood, so can easily be located.
