If you work on just one soft skill, work on empathy.
Let’s start with a definition: empathy is the ability to understand how another person feels and to take that into account when dealing with them. It doesn’t mean you have to agree with them—just that you have to consider and respect them and their positions.
Empathy acts as a social lubricant, allowing people to reach mutually satisfactory decisions. As soon as two or more people work together, they need to find a way to share what they know, what they believe, and what they plan. The more efficiently and effectively they can do this, things become simpler, and work becomes more agile.
