What Is XSL?
When the creators of the eXtensible Markup Language originally designed XML, they borrowed virtually everything they needed from SGML (Standard Generalized Markup Language). This included the syntax of the markup language and the method for defining schema for document classes using document type definitions (DTDs). When it came to formatting XML elements, the distinguished members of the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) XML Working Group naturally borrowed from an earlier style-sheet language known as DSSSL (pronounced “dissel”).
