In one of the first large-scale applications of Web services, eBay will be able to offer its users the ability to track the auctions they are participating in real time without requiring them to be logged into eBay’s Web site. The idea is that the user can be notified through instant messaging of the latest bids for the auctions in which they are involved. For example, a user could be notified when he has been outbid on an auction item. On the other side, a seller could be notified of incoming bids. The notification can go to one of many devices, including a cell phone, pager, other wireless device, or your traditional desktop computer.
