Out-of-Line Objects

In addition to the inline objects, there are a number of objects which are considered out-of-line, or objects which are not contained within a block area. These objects include

  • float— The contents of this object (usually an image) are placed in a floating position on the page. This can be the beginning of the page, or cause text to flow around the contents.

  • footnote— This wraps the text to be footnoted (the anchor area) and the footnote-body containing the actual text of the footnote.

  • footnote-body— This contains the text of the footnote. It is automatically placed at the bottom of the page inside the region-body area.
