Defining XSLT

The first chapter in this book was dedicated to defining and describing XSLT. However, it’s worth giving a precise definition of XSLT here. XSLT is a markup language defined in XML that enables you to describe how XML data will be transformed into another XML vocabulary, HTML, or text.

XSLT refers to the XSL Transformations, which is a World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Recommendation. The “Recommendation” status means that the specification has been approved by the W3C members. Currently, XSLT 1.0 has reached this status as a completed specification.
