14.6 Decision Support for System Architecture
In the previous section, we discussed how three standard decision support tools can be applied to system architecture. At this stage, the reader may wonder whether there is anything special about system architecture decisions at all. How are architecture decisions different from other decisions?
Box 14.1 summarizes the characteristics of architectural decisions and metrics. The combination of these characteristics makes existing decision support tools very hard to apply to architecture decision support, and this has motivated the development of decision support tools for system architecture.
