Clustering is the general task of dividing or decomposing a set of elements into subsets or categories, or, equivalently, aggregating groups of elements into modules. Clustering plays a central role in system architecture; this has been emphasized throughout the text. Chapters 8 and 13 argued that choosing a system decomposition, essentially a clustering task, is one of the most important architectural decisions.
