Creating Ethical Visibility

Sara knows she’s being petty when her name gets left off a congratulatory email to the team. She knows she does good work, and she’s positive that her manager simply forgot to include her. Still, it bothers her and makes her feel like she’s invisible to her boss and her colleagues. Don’t they know how hard she works and how much she brings to the table? The last thing she wants is to be seen as vain—or worse, needy—but being ignored or devalued is demoralizing, and she’s wondering if it’s not time to look for work elsewhere.

We’ve already established that one of the unintended consequences of working apart from your manager and your teammates is that you are often “out of sight and out of mind.”
