Content-Aware Fill

In the old days of Photoshop—before Photoshop CS5—we had to rely heavily on the Clone Stamp tool to edit photos (for example, covering up things and removing objects). With the introduction of Content-Aware Fill, retouching has taken a huge step forward. Content-Aware Fill automatically uses nearby pixels to cover up the area you’re trying to edit.

Here’s the basics of using Content-Aware Fill: Make a selection of the area you want to remove, choose Edit > Fill, and change the option to Content-Aware. The selected area is automatically filed with nearby pixels—and it very often does a very good job (Figures 2.212.23).
