Managing projects

The checklists in this chapter will help you to keep your project progressing and to support you in reaching your end goals.

7.1 TRACKING PROGRESS AND WRITING A PROGRESS REPORT

One of the main activities of a project manager is keeping a project on track, and to do this a project manager has to monitor progress. There are three questions a project manager must be able to answer to be sure the project is progressing as expected:

  • For schedule: Is the project progressing in completing tasks at least as fast as planned?
  • For cost: Is the project’s budget being spent no faster than planned? (See checklist 10.8.)
  • For benefits: Are the benefits from the project being delivered at the rate expected?
