Marty's Note: Another very common misconception in the product community is that innovation only happens in consumer products, but that it's a different game when building products for large companies. It is unfortunately true that many enterprise software companies have been slow to move to the product model, and it's also true that sales-driven organizations can be difficult to change. But as this example shows, for the ones that do, the rewards are substantial.

You learned in part VII about the Datasite transformation story. But the reason companies invest in moving to the product model is so the organization is capable of consistent innovation. This innovation story shares one such example.
One of the keys to a successful mergers and acquisitions (M&A) business is privacy. During the M&A process, numerous confidential documents are exchanged between the involved parties. If these documents are not handled securely, they can be lost, misplaced, or stolen.
Document redaction is the process of selectively removing or obscuring confidential data from a document to protect sensitive information from unauthorized access or disclosure while still allowing the remaining content to be shared or published.
Redaction typically is applied to text, images, or other media within a document. The process involves ensuring that this content cannot be revealed to the public or, in some cases, sold on the dark web.
