Main Server, Virtual Hosts, and Containers
In order to respond to requests, Apache must listen to a net-
work port. Apache can listen on multiple IP addresses and
ports and can be configured to respond differently according
to the IP address and port the client connected to.
A single IP address may be represented by many different
hostnames. In this case, the hostname requested can be deter-
mined only by examining the
Host HTTP header, which is
new for HTTP 1.1. Note that name-based virtual hosts do not
work with SSL/TLS connections, as the hostname is needed to
set up the secure connection but can only be extracted from
the headers once the key exchange has occurred.
Ports and IP addresses
The following directives tell Apache on which IP addresses
and ports it should listen.
BindAddress
BindAddress{*|IP-addr|fqdn }
