Generating “Expires” Headers
The optional mod_expir es module supports the generation of
Expires headers, which inform clients, including proxies, how
long the document contents remain valid and thus how long
they may be cached. Expiration dates are given as intervals
from either the time of the access or the time the file was last
modified, and can be specified as either the letter “
A” (for time
of access) or “
M” (for last modified time) followed by a num-
ber of seconds, or in the format:
base [plus] number period-type...
base may be access or now for time of access, or modifica-
tion for the last-modified time of the file. Valid period types
are years, months, weeks, days, hours, minutes, and seconds.
