Abstract
This chapter explores the transformative impact of augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) on mental healthcare. Amidst rising global mental health challenges, these immersive technologies offer accessible, engaging, and scalable interventions. AR enhances real-world therapy through digital overlays, enabling controlled exposure for anxiety and phobia management. VR offers fully immersive environments that support stress reduction, exposure therapy, and mindfulness, demonstrating substantial therapeutic benefits. In diagnostics, AR/VR improves assessment accuracy through real-life scenario simulations and patient response tracking, providing deep insights into mental health conditions. The chapter further highlights the role of AR/VR in teletherapy, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, where VR-based platforms facilitated remote therapy with immersive, engaging environments. Ethical considerations, such as data privacy and informed consent, are addressed, emphasizing the need for secure patient data management. ...
