Abstract
The fields of urology are being transformed by virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), offering innovative methods for disease detection and diagnosis. This study examines recent research and emerging technologies to understand how these tools can enhance detection and diagnostic procedures. AR and VR significantly impact preoperative planning by creating detailed three-dimensional (3D) models of the urinary system using patient-specific imaging data. Surgeons can engage with these models in virtual environments, allowing for precise surgical planning and decision-making. AR projects real-time images onto the surgeon’s field of vision during minimally invasive procedures, enhancing visualization and navigation while lowering the possibility of inadvertently damaging neighboring structures. Furthermore, VR simulations offer a safe and accurate surgical training environment, speeding up the acquisition of skills without requiring cadavers or actual patients. By providing interactive 3D representations of their anatomy, AR-based applications further improve patient education by assisting patients in better understanding their diseases and available therapies. ...
