Elements of this group are O, S, Se, Te, and Polonium.
Oxygen, S, Se and Te are non-metallic. They are called chalcogens (ore forming, as many of the metal ores are either oxide or sulphide).
Polonium is metallic and radioactive. It was discovered by M. Curie. Its name Polonium was derived from the homeland, Poland, of M. Curie. It is found in U and Th ores as a radioactive decay product. It can be made by bombarding 209Bi with neutrons in a nuclear reactor.
Polonium-210 is α-active and has a half-life of 138.4 days (i.e., t½ 138.4 days).
