adapter

A device that enables otherwise incompatible patch cords, data ports, servers, or networking devices to connect to one another. The term is also used to identify the mating point of fiber optic connectors through a bulkhead.

as-built

A construction document illustrating how a building was constructed. Typically drawn for a Data Center to show the location of electrical circuits and structured cabling.

attenuation

A reduction in signal strength during transmission. Attenuation is measured in decibels and normally occurs over long distances. Also known as loss.

availability

The degree to which Data Center infrastructure is operational and ready for use. This is represented as a percentage of time, such as 99.999 percent.
