Your Handy BIM Checklist
So you’re thinking about undertaking your first BIM project. If so, this appendix helps make sure your pre-flight checks are ready to go and that you’re prepared for a successful and planned take-off.
- Identify what information is required to enable decisions at each work stage. If your client hasn’t defined her needs then suggest helping her with a discovery workshop.
- Plan your strategy with a BIM kick-off meeting. Ensure you engage the proposed project team and your IT department among others to ensure buy-in. In your strategy, make sure that you
- Identify BIM project goals, both overall and at each stage.
- Identify any contractual BIM deliverables. Can you deliver these in-house or do you need external support such as a BIM consultant?
- Agree key workflows agreed such as clash detection and 4D simulation.
- Agree on a digital project technology stack. A technology stack is a set of software that provides the infrastructure for your computers. Check license agreements and hardware requirements.
- Determine the project infrastructure. Ensure you have sufficient bandwidth to push and pull all this data around without long time lags.
- Establish the common data environment (CDE). This is mission critical! Plan this so you can effectively exchange information with all the project participants.
