Popfly Game Creator Terms

Before we get started, let's review some of the Popfly Game Creator terms we'll need to know in order to build a game, including:

Scene

A scene is where you lay out your game's user interface. For LEGO Soldier, we'll build one long game scene.

Viewport

A viewport enables you to limit the portion of the scene that is visible at any time. We'll turn a viewport on for LEGO Soldier so that the entire scene isn't shown at once, and just the viewport portion is visible.

Actor

Actors represent graphical elements in a game scene. Although technically you can put non-actor Silverlight elements into a scene, like a TextBlock control, actors are special in that they can have behaviors. Some actors in LEGO Soldier include the scene background, our Main actor, walls, enemies, and anything else in our game.

Behaviors

Behaviors are the brains, or logic, of an actor or scene. For example, you can define a motion behavior for how an actor should move.

Properties

The properties pane is where you change the attributes of an actor or scene. For example, you can set the opacity of an actor to any value between 0 and 1 to represent how translucent you would want the actor to appear, with 0 being invisible and 1 being fully visible.

Game Screen

This is where you can build custom properties for your game as well as upload game assets, such as images, sounds, and video.
