What have we left out? Both the good news and bad news is: quite a bit. The bootstrap is a wonderful tool, but there is a lot to know about it. There are heavy tomes written on just this topic, and statisticians who devote their whole careers on studying it. Even I, for example, spend a non-trivial amount of time doing original research on this technique.
The content of this chapter, I hope, serves as a substantial introduction to the method, and that the example applications we have seen are immediately usable by you, dear reader, in your research. I would, however, be doing you an injustice if I:
