ACTING ’AS IF’
Act as if though what you do makes a difference. It does. – William James
Is it possible to make yourself feel any one particular emotion? Is it possible, for example, to make yourself feel compassionate, interested, confident, motivated or happy? Yes, it is. By acting ’as if’.
Emotions have three aspects: thoughts, behaviour and physical feelings. Any one of these aspects of an emotion can trigger another. This means that what you think can influence what you do and how you physically feel. It also means that your behaviour – what you do – can influence how and what you think and feel.
You can use this to your advantage; act ’as if’ and you’re on your way to feeling how you’d like to feel.
