Austria. The organization was taken over by Nazi Germany in
1938. In 1945, after the end of WWII, the organization was revived
with the establishment of the present ICPO structure. It was based
in Saint Cloud, France, and remained there until 1989, when it
was moved to its present location in Lyon, France. Currently, over
160 countries are members of this organization. Interpol main-
tains a central data bank that is available to all member agencies.
The basic concept of this organization is to allow domestic police
agencies in each member country to obtain information quickly
in other countries through the facilities of Interpol without going
to the diplomatic or political level within the respective countries.
