Known for many problems, the seven items below (sometimes remembered as “TIMWOOD”) should be avoided in all processes in all jobs as much as possible (McBride 2003).
When reading this list, think of your work. These terms apply to both processes in a factory (think, making widgets) and in an office. Challenge yourself to find at least one of each of these wastes in your office. Can you find it? And if so, can you eliminate it?
1. Transporting. Can your company more efficiently transport employees and products? Spending half a mile walking to the next meeting is wasted time, and you can’t charge your customers for it.
