Understanding CSI

CSI was designed to address all the issues with in-tree plugins and the cumbersome aspects of FlexVolume plugins. What makes CSI so enticing to storage providers is that it is not a Kubernetes-only standard, but an industry-wide standard. It allows storage providers to write a single driver for their storage solution and become immediately compatible with a broad range of container orchestration platforms such as Docker, Cloud Foundry, Mesos, and, of course, Kubernetes.
