The benefit of this approach is that, as a developer, you completely sidestep the whole business of building images, tagging them, pushing them to a registry, and deploying them to the cluster with all the Kubernetes ceremony around it (that is, deployment, service, ingress, and NetworkPolicy). It's great for ad hoc exploration and one-off jobs too.
