Using Prometheus

Prometheus (https://prometheus.io/) is an open source and CNCF graduated project (the second after Kubernetes itself). It is the de facto standard metrics collection solution for Kubernetes. It has an impressive set of features, a large installation base on Kubernetes, and an active community. Some of the prominent features are as follows:

  • A generic multi-dimensional data model where each metric is modeled as a time series of key-value pairs
  • A powerful query language, called PromQL, that lets you generate reports, graphs, and tables
  • A built-in alerting engine where alerts are defined and triggered by PromQL queries
