Diving head first into writing a larger game is fun, but it’s often a bad idea. With a little bit of planning, you can save yourself a lot of anxiety.
You don’t need to create an enormous, formal Game Design Document, but doing some planning before you leap into writing code is always a good idea. A well-designed plan can help to keep you motivated by showing regular progress. Early planning enables you to figure out if you’re biting off more than you can chew and helps you determine the structure your game will follow.
In this chapter, you’ll follow the template provided in Appendix 2, Short Game Design Documents, and outline the game you’re going to make in this section of the book.
