11.1 VTAM Generic Resources
VGR allows the user to have a generic logon to IMS. This supplies a single view of all the IMS
systems in the sysplex, with VGR determining the IMS system that the user is connected to.
This has a number of benefits. Network load balancing across the IMS systems can be
achieved, and it allows for changes to the number of IMS systems in a sysplex. IMS systems
can be added without impact and removed with only the users having to logoff and logon.
Figure 11-1 presents the major components of VGR that we discuss in this chapter.
