In the old 32-bit operating system environment, the total virtual memory address space is 4 gigabytes (GB) and, by default, it is divided into 2 GB each for applications and the operating system kernel. Though 2 GB of available memory to application may be sufficient for small and simple applications, it definitely does not work well for large-scale and complex applications. In the context of IIS, an application may be recycled when the worker process hits the memory limit.
