BTrace

BTrace is another powerful profiling tool that has the ability to communicate with the JVM and thereby extract all relevant information from it. This way, the user is able to guess what needs to be ignored and shunted aside and what information is crucial and therefore needs to be gathered and evaluated.

As a rule, BTrace can help find out the following:

• The memory usage for the application (both heap and non heap)
• The real-world number of thread activities being run in an application--the many different types of threads with each thread are counted individually
• The total CPU load of the Java runtime machine
• The system's load average, that is, the total load on the CPU at any particular point in time
