1 A young English designer named Carwardine approached the firm of Herbert Terry at the beginning of the 1930s with the proposal that it should build a desk light employing the constant-tension jointing principles found in the human arm. The company agreed, and the Anglepoise light was the result. From that time it has been in production, scarcely altered except for details and finishes.
