Mrs Golda Meir, former Israeli Prime Minister, once said that she caused the initial debacle in the 1973 Yom Kippur War, and ruined her political career, because she ignored her own intuition.

In her autobiography, the Russian-born and American-raised woman who became Israel’s Prime Minister noted that when, on Friday, 5 October 1973, news was received that the Russian advisers were leaving Syria in a hurry, ‘I tried not to become obsessive.
