Scoring rules
There are two methods of scoring to determine the winner of a game; only occasionally these two methods lead to different results and each of these counting methods has advantages and disadvantages. The first method (called the Japanese count) calculates the controlled territory, and is the one used in Japan and Korea, and probably the one originally used in China; the second method (called Chinese count), calculates the occupied area, and is the one used in China starting, it is believed, from the 15th century.
