Watson is a system of artificial intelligence, able to answer questions expressed in a natural language, developed within the DeepQA project of IBM by the research team directed by David Ferrucci. The name was chosen in honor of the first president of IBM, Thomas J. Watson.
In February 2013, IBM released the first commercial application of the Watson software system for managing lung cancer treatment decisions at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, in collaboration with the WellPoint health insurance company.
